Sandwich Guildhall Museum Art Exhibition

The theme for the competition is our Roman Bowl! You could be inspired by it’s shape, texture and colour, or the story of the people that created it. Your artwork could be a still life illustration or an abstract painting; it’s up to you! There are photographs below, or you can visit the museum and view the bowl itself to get some inspiration.
If selected your artwork could be displayed in our museum during Sandwich Arts Week, where lots of visitors will see it, and be featured on the museum’s social media channels and website. You will also be invited to attend the evening reception of the exhibition and will be in with a chance of being awarded the Mayor’s Prize.
Please read all of the details below before submitting your work.
Submitting your work:
Email museum@sandwichtowncouncil.gov.uk with the subject line “Art Submission 2024” followed by your name. Your email should include a high quality image of your work and its measurements, your name and age (if under 18), and a brief explanation based on what about the Roman Bowl inspired your work. Any artwork submitted without these details will not be considered. If you are under 18, you must also have permission of a parent or guardian to enter the competition.

Artwork must be no larger than A2 (594mm on the longest side) and must have a picture hook or mirror plates attached for hanging.
The closing date for submissions is Friday 23rd August 2024. You will be notified by Thursday 29th August if your work has been selected for the exhibition.
Artwork must be delivered to the museum on Saturday 31st August or Sunday 1st September, unless otherwise arranged with the Museum Coordinator.
Important Details:
The exhibition is open to all ages and abilities. If selected, your artwork will be exhibited in the hall way between the museum and 16th century courtroom or in the museum’s temporary exhibition space. The exhibition will also be promoted as part of Sandwich Arts Week.
Selected work must be delivered with the following information attached: name, age (if under 18), contact information (email address and phone number), social media handles (if available). By submitting this information, you are allowing the museum to share your name publicly alongside your artwork in order to credit you.
The exhibition will run from Wednesday 4th September 2024 to Sunday 29th September 2024.
Artwork must be removed from the museum by 4pm on Sunday 6th October 2024. You must arrange the collection of your artwork with the Museum Coordinator. The museum will not be held responsible for any artwork that is not collected by the above time and date.
The museum reserves the right to use any artwork submitted within the exhibition, on social media and the website, as well as within future promotion, with credit to the artist, however, the artist will maintain copyright of their work.
