Sandwich & the Kitchener Camp
Interview with Dr Clare Weissenberg, creator of the Kitchener Camp Project and curator of the Leave to Land exhibition.
About the Interview
On this day, 80 years ago, conflict in Europe ceased after war had raged on for six years. The fighting continued in other parts of the world, but the 8th May 1945 saw the surrender of German military operations and became known as Victory in Europe Day. Sandwich’s involvement in the Second World War is not commonly known about, however the town played a part in rescuing Jewish refugees prior to the outbreak of the war in 1939.
To share this story and reflect on the experiences of those involved, we interviewed Dr C Weissenberg, curator of the Leave to Land exhibition and creator of the Kitchener Camp Project. We invite you to join us as we learn more about Sandwich, a small town with a big history.
